May 19, 1937 - Adolf Hitler asked the Vatican to rebuke Chicago Cardinal Mundelein for his criticism of the Nazis.
May 19, 1943 - Winston Churchill told the U.S. Congress that his country was pledging their full support in the war against Japan.
May 19, 1944 - 59 Italian resistance fighters were massacred on a mountain pass above Genoa, Italy. On July 5, 2002, Nazi SS officer Friedrich Engel was convicted of murder for the massacre. He was sentenced to seven years but was spared jail time due to his age, (93).
